Meet the Dentists: Apple's Portobello Dental Clinic

Dr. Amir Mirzaei

He started his undergraduate science degree at Concordia University in Montréal in 1987. A year later, having developed the passion for Human Anatomy and cell biology, he was admitted to the only undergraduate degree in Human Anatomy offered across Canada at McGill University. Besides all of the important anatomical courses such as Histology, Neuroanatomy, Physiology, Immunology and Microbiology, he developed a big interest in Head and Neck Anatomy. The passion for becoming a Dental Surgeon was more realistic now. While growing up as a youngster, he had enjoyed doing fine wood work and making art work such as necklaces, earrings, hairclips, penholders and jewelry boxes. “With the love for science and dentistry and being so dexterous as well as my passion towards helping people, it was just a natural choice for me to become a dentist," says Amir.

After graduating in 1994, Dr. Mirzaei moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario as an Associate Doctor. In 1995, Dr. Mirzaei founded Apple’s Elmvale Dental Clinic. Over the past few years, he has attended hundreds of hours of post graduate courses in different fields of dentistry, especially in esthetic dentistry. To do his share of teaching, he has been a part-time clinical instructor at La Cite Collegiale in Ottawa for the past few years. He is an international educator, traveling to underdeveloped countries and assisting the local dental clinics on a volunteer basis.

Life enrichment is about maintaining perfect physical, mental and social well-being in a balanced way to give us a sense of fulfillment and a stage of ever happiness. These words are the crux of Dr. Mirzaei’s philosophy about dentistry that is rooted in preventative care based on careful comprehensive dental examination and diagnosis. Dr. Mirzaei has been helping his patients achieve the healthiest and most beautiful smiles possible by combining his artistry and experience with the latest technological innovations.

It is no wonder then, that patients travel from all over to see Dr. Mirzaei. He listens very patiently to his patient’s concerns and offers them with different cosmetic and smile enhancement options including esthetic bonding, porcelain veneers, natural looking crowns and bridges as well as dental implants.

Dr. Jose Roberto Pereira comes from Brazil, a tropical and very beautiful country. He used to live in Brasilia, the capital, where he had his own practice. Since high school he got interested in sciences and biology that lead him to becoming a healthcare provider; dental care. He has graduated from dental school in one of the best faculties in the country. His perfectionism and sense of aesthetics made him decide pursuing orthodontics. He worked as orthodontist since he graduated, which has granted him 17 years of clinical experience.

Recently, in order to give a better future to his family, he and his wife decided to move to Canada. Upon his arrival to Canada he successfully wrote his qualifying exams and started practicing. He is now enrolled in a Master's program at University Laval in Quebec City.

His treatment philosophy is the early preventive approach; sometimes, as early as the age of six, where some malocclusions can be corrected minimizing or avoiding necessity of complicated treatments such as jaw surgery and extractions. Facial balance is an important focus area for him; the orthodontic treatment should always maintain and enhance the facial harmony of our patients, it is therefore a complete facial analysis is performed prior to commencement of any treatment.

In his spare time, Dr. Pereira likes practicing sports like skiing, playing musical instruments like saxophone and spending time with his family. He is a proud husband and a father of two wonderful children, a boy and a girl. Come meet him personally! He'll be happy to meet you too!
